Outreach Bike Mechanic

OUTREACH BIKE MECHANIC.

 Ride On Cycling, 61 Haven Road, EX2 8DP

6 month temporary contract, 30 hours per week at £13.15-14.20 per hour, depending on experience. (£25,642.50 – £27,690 FTE based on 7.5h per day)

28 days annual leave pro-rata, including bank holidays (pro-rata 4 days)

Ride On is a bike recycling charity in Exeter. Our vision is to spread the joy of cycling, build a welcoming community and empower people with confidence and new skills.

We’re looking to expand our outreach and training offer to the community and bolster our existing mechanic team fixing bikes, serving customers and supporting volunteers. 

We’re looking for an experienced mechanic who is passionate about sharing their skills in a friendly, supportive and patient manner. As well as being part of the mechanic team fixing donated bikes, you will be delivering varied outreach, including delivering bike maintenance training in school sessions, community projects,  short courses to paid customers in our workshop and running Dr Bike sessions (free safety checks). 

Previous experience of teaching bike maintenance is desirable, but not essential. 

The working days will be discussed at the interview and may require some weekend and evening work. The ideal candidate will be positive, practically minded and have excellent customer service skills

Please note – although this role is initially offered as a 6-month contract, we hope that outreach will grow to be a core part of our activities. Providing we find a suitable candidate we intend to make the role permanent beyond this initial contract. 

Purpose of Job: To support the workshop in refurbishing donated bikes, supporting volunteers, as well as delivering training and community projects for Ride On.
