Do you buy bikes?
Ride On does not buy bikes, or offer part exchange our refurbished bikes. We also do not buy our refurbished bikes back. If you have a problem with your bike within the 2 month warranty please speak to a member of staff and we will happily sort this.
How do I donate a bike?
To donate a bike, all you need to do is bring it to our workshop during our opening hours. No appointment needed. Upon arrival, make contact with a member of staff or volunteer if you need help unloading. I’m afraid we do not have the means to come to you to collect bikes. We’re based on Exeter Quay – click HERE for directions.
Do you accept electric bikes?
Yes – we accept electric bikes but please read the following. Due to the fact that the responsible disposal of electric bike batteries can be expensive, and storing some batteries can be hazardous, we reserve the right to refuse bike batteries as part of a donation if we don’t feel we can economically or safely refurbish the bike. This typically means only we accept batteries from manufacturers that have a proven safety record and better aftercare support – Bosch, Shimano & Bafang for instance, but each donation is received at the Managers discretion. Please note, if we refuse the battery, we can still accept the rest of the bike.
If donating an electric bike, please please remember to bring the charger, keys and any manuals you have for the bike. If you know of any electrical issues with the bike, please let a staff member know when you donate the bike – such as failing batteries or intermittent motors.
Do you collect donations?
Unfortunately we do not have a vehicle and so are unable to offer collection / deliver, but we have a small network of drop off points that may be of use to you. Click here to find out more.
Do you service bikes?
No. Aside from our 2-month warranty on our donated bikes, Ride On does not offering servicing or repair. Luckily Exeter has plenty of good bike mechanics so we’d urge you to take your bike to them. We do offer a Bring Your Own Bike session – good if you want to do it yourself.
My bike has been unloved for a long time – do you still want it?!
Whilst we (sadly!) cannot save every bike, we accept bikes in any condition. We are a resourceful bunch and can often find parts that are still useful on even the poorest condition bike we receive. Anything we can’t use gets collected for scrap so the raw material should also find its way back into use somehow. The only exception to this is electric bike batteries – as we are charged for their disposal we do not accept these if it is clear we are unable to refurbish the bike. See above. If in doubt, speak to a member of staff on site.
