Here at Ride On we deliver accessible bike maintenance courses, aimed at individuals who want to learn the fundamentals of bike maintenance in a supported, welcoming environment. Our experienced mechanics will share their knowledge at a sensible pace, encouraging you to be hands on as much as possible to help make the learning stick. We focus on explaining and demonstrating how each system works as a whole, before breaking it into its individual components – giving you a full understanding of how your bike works to help you better understand how to maintain or repair it. We offer 3 courses, as below. All serve as perfect introductions into bike maintenance and lead nicely on to accessing our workshop through the Bring Your Own Bike sessions.
We find understanding how our gears work is a key area people can struggle to get confident with. In this session, we’ll show you the fundamentals of the whole gear system, before exploring each component individually. With the fundamentals covered, we then explore the best ways to adjust and maintain the system for silky smooth, reliable shifting each time – covering indexing, adjusting limits, hanger alignment and cable replacement. Customers are encouraged to bring their own bike, but please note the bulk of the course will be taught on our demonstration bikes to ensure a firm understanding, before then applying this to your own bike.
NOTE : This session is intended for cable operated, derailleur systems. Not hub gears or electronic shifting.
This session is intended to give you an oversight of your whole bike and the confidence to tackle puncture repairs out on the road. Our experienced mechanic will go through a detailed safety check covering each aspect of your bike, tackling small issues and adjustments on the way. We’ll then tackle a puncture repair, as well as sharing tips on preventing them in the first place.
You are encouraged to bring your own bike for this.
In this session we’ll show you how to maintain your braking system, to ensure strong, reliable and efficient braking all year round. It will cover rim brakes and focusses mainly on V brake callipers to give an overview but with Cantilever and Road Calliper brakes also catered for. We’ll cover pad replacement, brake balancing and cable replacement. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike – but we will use our own demonstration bikes for part of the session before seeing how it applies to your own bike. Click here for booking :
